The SCC Learning Centre is a training service offered by SCC to support ongoing education related to conformity assessment. We offer a variety of public workshops on international standards, quality management and conformity assessment schemes. Teague Lamarche is the Team Lead, Learning and Development with SCC’s Accreditation Services Branch. In addition to coordinating public training offerings, his team develops specialized training for SCC assessors and staff.

Q.

Can you tell us about SCC’s Learning Centre and what it offers?

A.

The SCC Learning Centre’s mission is to provide learning opportunities that promote excellence in conformity assessment. From providing SCC assessors with training on assessment skills, to helping SCC’s customers understanding accreditation requirements, our team helps provide professional development opportunities that help everyone get the most out of the accreditation process.

Q.

How are your courses developed and delivered?

A.

The SCC Learning Centre develops a variety of courses, from virtual workshops to self-paced e-learning. We have a team of experienced instructional designers who work with SCC assessors and other subject matter experts to develop training. This approach allows us to offer the best live, and on-demand courses, delivered in an interactive, engaging and meaningful format. We are especially proud of our virtual workshop format, which merges the energy of traditional classroom courses with the convenience of an online format.

Q.

Who are the courses designed for and what are some of the benefits of taking these courses?

A.

We design courses for both SCC assessors and customers interested in learning more about standards and conformity assessment. This mixed format allows us to share diverse perspectives and experience between participants. Whether participants are interested in learning about standards to support their internal audits, or to become a third-party assessor, they will find our courses beneficial.

Q.

What is something you are proud of when it comes to your work at SCC?

A.

Whenever we initiate a new course, we begin with an in-depth needs assessment process to ensure that our learning solutions are practical, relevant, and engaged with the needs of participants. This process takes a little time, but it always results in great courses. The most rewarding time for me as an instructional designer and facilitator is hearing from participants that the learned something practical from our course and had fun doing so.

Q.

What is on the horizon for the Learning Centre?

A.

We’re always happy to hear from customers who would like support learning about conformity assessment. All our courses are available on-request for groups who would like special offerings for their organization. Similarly, we can design custom courses related to accreditation for organizations who would like to learn something specific. If anyone would like to suggest a topic or course they’d like to see in the future, they can always contact us at learning@scc.ca (apprentissage@ccn.ca).
